Is this a quality piece of art? Why? What is the best thing about this piece? What is the worst thing about this piece? Is the artist successful? Why? before after I got super nervous when a portrait project was announced. I thought I portrait was only of a person until I learned it was not. A portrait can be of a dog, a cat, and even in my case, a snake! I knew from the start I wanted to use my prisma colors for the project because there's always improvement to be made with them. The last time I had used prismas for a piece was when we did the two in one project where I drew a guitar with a tree neck. I used dark shades of brown and green of the colored pencils to add depth to the tree and guitar to make it less fLat. I did a similar thing with my portrait of Monty by mixing complementary colors to get specific colors straight from the picture, something I never would have thought to do before. Also adding a green background behind Monty really made him stand out and edges more defined. I'm no good at drawing with references so I traced the outline but I still improved using references by having to constantly check color and where I needed to highlight. Overall the experience was very rewarding. Pick 3 Questions2. List some reasons that an artist would need to use an observation when making artwork. Personally I could not draw a tiger by memory, there are some who can but I can tell you many cannot. Observation is important especially in drawing realistic things. You can observe a real object or use a multiple pictures to get the idea like it did. Without observation it would be soo much more complicated to draw even easy things. For example think of drawing something as simple as a guitar. You start drawing and second guess yourself on a couple small things and I can bet you whip out your phone and look at a guitar; but what if you didn't do that? A lot of art would be inaccurate and just not what it truly could be. Many pieces I draw I personally use a lot of observation because my head is really good at drawing exactly what I see but I can't draw anything well that I can't psychically see. 4. What are some reasons artists make art? From so many people I know they use it as a stress reliever, something enjoyable to do and I agree with that as well but it goes so much deeper. People make a living off making art, people go down in history and are still talked about today because of their art. Art can have so many meanings and you can take it however you want but every piece of art has a piece of that person in it and you never know if they were making that to get away from their busy life or if they were mad and needed to get some anger out, it could be anything and I feel like there's just so many reasons why artists make art. 6. What kinds of problems might artist's encounter as they plan, make and share art? List as many as you can:
Artists can run into a lot of problems such as running out of materials to things just not working out as planned but a large issue for me was the messy factor. I could not even look at paint, glue, and worst of all, charcoal without cringing. The funny part about the piece above is is that it's a drawing of washing hands but it's draw with charcoal and was probably the most frustrating piece I've EVER done. But I feel like an internal issue is a not commonly thought of problem an artist would encounter. Besides that, I could see a large issue regarding installations and planning out size because that could ruin everything and go back quickly. Another assumed large issue is probably not mixing enough of a color or running out of a color you need in the middle of a piece.

I chose to make a book for the mini project. It was pretty hard to stitch it together but the rest of it was really easy. I did two different colors of the dinosaur paper for each side and green embroidery thread to stitch it. It took a lot of time but it turned out well
Art Critisism Process 1. DescribeWhat things do you see in the art work? Describe the elements of art. Identify materials used. Identify genre. Explain everything you see even if you don't know what it is. 2. Analyze How are the lines, shapes, colors, and textures used in this piece of art? Find examples of unity through repetition. Look for center of interest, is there one? What is it? 3. Interpret What is going on in the artwork? What is the purpose of the piece? What is the art saying? 4. Decide/Evaluate Do you like this piece of art? Why or why not? Is this a quality piece of art? Why? What is the best thing about this piece? What is the worst thing about this piece? Is the artist successful? Why? I drew a portrait of my ball python Monty. I used prisma colors because I wanted to improve my skill with them and I think I succeeded also I just prefer more handle on what I'm doing and I don't have much control with paint etc. I did it of my snake because I didn't want to learn human structures better I'm more interested in animals and snakes are something that not many people have.
I feel like art is a very personal thing. I didn't want to add anything Jessica didn't want so it was stressful especially the day she was not here and I had to finish it. I feel like the stress just ruined my idea of doing it again so I probably won't. The main theme was pastel and flowers The end result was pretty though.
This has to be one of my favorite projects we did, either because of the fact it turned out well or the fact it was the first time I used paint without feeling anxious about it and I feel like art in a way had helped me get over problems caused by OCD. It's such a personal piece in that what but was also portrayed though the words on the front "know hope". I've told this story already but as a child life didn't treat my family the best. My parents split up right before my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. My mom always told me know hope and explained what I meant to our situation. She said I could think of it as "no hope" or "know hope". Basically what that means is look at yourself as having no hope anymore or instead you can have hope for the better. My mom is alive against all odds today (she had a predicted 0% survival rate 5 years after dianosis) but she's fought a whole 8 years and is alive and cancer free. The tree I painted is more of a symbolization about how trees are strong and rooter and basically take a lot of rain and weather but they still hold strong. There we nothing exactly sifficult it was just time consuming. The first later wasted the fist class time drying and then the tree took even longer! Overall I see this project as a HUGE success just because I really like how it turned on and was actually hanging next to my bed before I had to bring it back for the art show.
I do not have a finished project because I could not find my final prints. I've attached pictures of my linoleum black and sketch and it is a sugar skull fish. I like the sugar skull kind of style and my sister told me to do a fish because she always sees dogs and cats but not fish. The main complications were carving the black and washing it because the sink was filled to the brim and we had to use the bathroom sinks. I feel like this was probably my least favorite project. If I were to re do it I would do something more simple and less stressful.
